The Capitano, later known as the Cavalier, is made from buckram, a stiffened cloth used to make the hat more sturdy. Fully lined, the inside seams are finished, a sweatband is added, and eyelets hold up the 5-inch brim. Milliner's wire is added to the edge to maintain the shape. Individually hand-blocked in the traditional fashion, the Capitano includes three 18-22 inch ostrich feathers: 3 black.
